How do you plan and prepare for your next career steps after finishing your PhD? And how do you decide which career path is right for you - academia, government, industry or some other pathway?

This interactive workshop will give you tools and strategies for tackling these questions based on your own interests, strengths and preferences. If you are unsure about preparing for life after the PhD, this event will help you start building your focus and confidence to pursue a path best suited to your skills and priorities.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Conference: 24 & 25 Sept 2018

ECU's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander postgraduate students are invited to attend the "Ways of Being, Knowing and Doing: Navigating within Western Systems” conference, hosted by the Postgraduate & Research Students’ Association (PARSA) at the Australian National University, Canberra on the 24th and 25th September 2018.

The conference covers a range of key note addresses and workshops to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander postgraduate students who are completing research or coursework studies in their PhD, Masters or Honours.

ECU Research Week 2018 (10 – 14 September): Volunteer Work

Be part of the team at the Graduate Research School and help out with activities on the lead up and during Research Week to promote ECU’s research. You will have fun and gain event experience!

Why volunteer?

  • Improve communication, teamwork and networking skills
  • Be inspired by ECU’s current research projects and learn about further postgraduate study
  • Receive recognition with a certificate and reference letter

Tasks

  • Assist with Research Week marketing and promotion
  • Distribute brochures and flyers
  • Attend events – event management support and logistics

Hours

  • 2 - 3 or more hours prior to Research Week for event promotion
  • 2 - 3 or more hours per week from 10 – 14 September 2018

iPREP WA PhD student applications are now open!

We are currently recruiting for the next round of iPREP commencing 8th October 2018. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to earn some money ($3,000) and gain valuable industry skills.

What is iPREPWA?

iPREP is an Industry and PhD Research Engagement Program that provides PhD students the opportunity to gain industry experience while using skills gained in their PhD to solve an industry problem.

What will I be doing?

If successful, you will be working in small inter-disciplinary teams with other PhD students from the 5 universities in WA. You will work on a project full time for 6 weeks at a participating organisation. In previous rounds, students have worked with CSBP Fertilisers, CSIRO, BankWest, Water Corporation, CBH Group, Department of Culture and the Arts, Department of Health and CingleVue. iPREP is open to all industries and disciplines!

Who is eligible?

1.PhD candidates who have submitted their thesis for examination by Monday 22nd August AND will not have your degree conferred (all revisions approved and degree awarded by the Board of Examiners) until after the completion of the iPREP program (Friday 16th November).

2.Domestic-enrolled PhD candidates who have Confirmation of Candidature and have consumed at least 2 EFTSL (2 years equivalent of study). 

Deadline for applications is extended to 22nd August 2018.

HDR Liaison Team Leader at University of Queensland

The HDR Liaison Team Leader supervises, provides guidance and training of the HDR Liaison Officers (HLOs) who deliver high quality support and service to HDR students and Post Graduate Coordinators (PGCs) across UQ. Ensuring consistent and exceptional service delivery is critical in this role; including across the HDR candidature application and enrolment processes, coordination of opportunities for the development and engagement of candidates and the resolution of issues and concerns. The HDR Liaison team, including the Team leaders, also assist the PGCs to proactively monitor candidate progress and undertake various other activities; including the coordination of milestone activities, scholarship nominations and special strategic initiatives.
