If you enjoy meeting new people, making friends, gaining new experiences and have great communication skills, then this is the program for you!

As part of an ongoing partnership with ECU, students from Tokyo City University will travel to Perth to complete a semester of study. To assist these students, we are looking for dedicated and reliable ECU students to act as buddies during their stay.

Volunteering as a buddy gives you the opportunity to make new friends, create inter-cultural networks, communicate across cultures, experience working in a team and gain vital employability skills which you can take with you when you graduate.

Based on the Mount Lawley campus, your main role will be to offer support, friendship and encouragement to up to six TCU students during their studies at ECU. You’ll also assist the students with orientation activities, engaging in organised social events, and providing insight into Australian cultures and customs.

To apply all you need is to have studied for at least one calendar year at ECU and have an interest in learning about new cultures and helping your peers. You don’t have to speak Japanese, but it is preferable to know some of the language and have an appreciation of the culture. The program will run from 10 February to 16 June 2017.

If you’d like to know more, there will be an information session on:

Tuesday 18 October at 12-1pm at the Mount Lawley Campus in room 3.211.

If you would like to be involved please complete the TCU Volunteer Expression of Interest Form found here by Friday 11 November and return it to the Program Officer, Deborah Geddes d.geddes@ecu.edu.au, along with any questions you have about the program.
